The National Citizen Service
NCS is a youth development programme that empowers young people, aged 15-17 years old, by engaging them in residential and social action activities. Such activities allow young people to challenge themselves and take responsibility for their own actions and personal development.
NCS engages individuals from all areas of the Rotherham community throughout a fun, action-packed programme that helps nurture their transition into adult life. The programme gives young people a chance to meet new people and make new friends whilst doing something truly inspiring with their spring, summer or autumn.
Week 1: Experience the freedom of living away from home and take part in challenging outdoor activities such as rock climbing, abseiling and canoeing in the Peak or the Lake District or even Scotland! Get to know your NCS family and develop transferrable team work and leadership skills for life.
Week 2: Get a real sense of independence and get a taste for what university life is like whilst staying in University accommodation in either Leeds or Sheffield. Whether it’s budgeting for yourself, cooking a meal for your friends or attending pop-up interactive activity sessions, week 2 is all about developing life skills. Take part in our student themed activities including ‘a day in the life of a student’, the NCS Talent Show, MasterChef Challenge and the famous Neon Night Party.
Weeks 3&4: Come together with your NCS team mates and put your shared skills and experiences to the test by planning and delivering your very own social action project in the local community. Gain real life project planning and delivery experience to help boost your CV to help you stand out from the rest! Don’t forget, NCS isn’t just a wonderful, once-in-a-lifetime experience, it is also a recognised National Award that is signed by the Prime Minister!
