RUCST | G4S Half time tournament

Greasbrough Primary 1 V 0 Dalton Foljambe

After the success of last year’s tournament we have once again being able to run a schools knockout tournament during half time of selected RUFC home games. The tournament gives 16 local schools and over 120 children the chance to play football in front of thousands of fans on the pitch at the AESSeal New York Stadium.

The first fixture of this season’s half time trophy took place last weekend during the Rotherham United Vs Cardiff City match and saw last year’s champions Greasbrough face Dalton Foljambe. As the game kicked off it was clear to see that both teams were nervous and the game was destined to be a very cagey affair. There was little in the way of chances during the first few minutes and it was clear that it was going to take a piece of brilliance to separate the 2 teams, this piece of brilliance was delivered just after the 5 minute mark when Noah Jenkinson picked up the ball on half way, beat a Foljambe player and fired the ball low into the bottom corner to send the Greasbrough players celebrating at the corner flag. It was then back to the wall time for Greasbrough as Fojambe mounted a number of attacks to try and score an equaliser, Greabrough almost gifted them this in the final minute when they gave the ball away in defence and a goal mouth scrambled ensued where Dalton did everything they could to force the ball into the goal but the Greasbrough defence threw their bodies on the line and survived the onslaught and when the ball was finally hacked clear the final whistle sounded and the relief was clear to see on the Greasbrough players faces as they move one step closer to defending their title.

We would like to say well done to both teams for the way they conducted themselves at the match and whilst on the pitch playing.
