On Wednesday 23rd October Rotherham United Community Sports Trust celebrated the re-launch of the Premier League Kicks programme. The Premier Leagues flagship community programme, giving young people the access to free football and sporting sessions, as well as workshops helping educate and unlock their potential. RUCST use the programme to work with local authorities including the police and fire department to educate the children, to provide safer and more inclusive communities.
The programme is aimed at children aged 8-18-year-old, engaging the participants in positive activities through football and sport. Whilst also addressing topics covering everything from equality and inclusive to youth violence and knife crime. With Premier League’s support will see the programme grow so that 90 Premier League, EFL and National League clubs are able to deliver sport and education sessions in communities where projects are needed most.
The RUCST relaunch event was a great success, with over 20 children both girls and boys taking part in a boxing session at former British Welterweight boxer Junior Witter’s gym facility based at the Rotherham Football Centre. The night attracted participants from our boys boxing sessions and our girls only boxing sessions, who took part in a one-hour full boxing session including pad work, speed balls and strength training. Special guests on the night included RUCST Premier League kicks ambassador Terri Harper who was preparing for her IBO World Female Super Feather Title, Junior Witter and RUFC first team player Kyle Vassell.
Kyle said, ‘I would like to get more involved with the PL kicks programme and I believe that children especially in their teenage years need motivation and a role model to keep them on the right path and not get dragged into a life that is likely to end up in trouble.”If you would like any information on the PL Kicks programme and sessions that we are running do not hesitate to contact Rich Williams RUCST inclusion coordinator on 01709 827767 or email@example.com
