HEALTH | Loneliness Awareness Week 2022

Rotherham United Community Sports Trust are proud to support Loneliness Awareness Week 2022.

This year’s Loneliness Awareness Week will take place between the 13th – 17th June 2022. The week will explore the experience of loneliness, its effect on our mental health and how we can all play a part in reducing loneliness in our communities. As we all know, sport brings people together and in particular, football unites us. At Rotherham United Community Sports Trust and working with the club, we are tackling loneliness together and connecting more older people at risk of loneliness.

A recent study from the Office National Statistics (ONS) showed that 2.6 million adults reported that they felt lonely ”often” or ”always” whilst 7.4 million adults reported their wellbeing had been affected through them having felt lonely so our role within the Rotherham community is to try and support those individuals where we can.

Reducing loneliness is a major step towards a mentally healthy society. Our health and wellbeing department offer weekly sessions such as reminiscence groups, walking football, fitness classes, coffee mornings and walking groups just to name a few, to some of the most isolated and lonely people within our local community.

Are you are looking to take up a new hobby, stay fit and healthy? Our Mature Millers programme provides a range of activities for older adults. Some groups focus on physical activity whilst others promote the importance of socialising as we get older. We have a brilliant group of over 20- 25 Mature Millers members join our range of walking groups & walking football regardless of age and experience.

If sports aren’t for you, we have wonderful groups at our regular coffee mornings and our Brecks Memory Club for a lot of people who want a relaxing coffee, maybe a chat and a slice of cake. So whether you want to get a sweat on, or put the world to rights, we’re here to ensure you make the most of your golden years.
