Weight management for children and young people
‘In the last year of primary school, on average, six children out of a class of thirty are obese and a further four are overweight, twice as many as thirty years ago. Obesity disproportionately affects children living in deprived areas and some ethnic minority groups’ Public Health England
We have partnered up with the NHS’ WHAM team to offer a unique weight management programme for families whose children have been identified as overweight or obese by the national childhood measurement programme.
Funding from HRUK and Subway has enabled us to deliver weekly groups at Parkgate astro from September 2019 to August 2020. Each week we spend 30 minutes doing fun tasks learning about healthy eating and exercise and 30 minutes playing sport.
Following the 6 week programme families are invited to stay with us for a further 11 months where they can exercise and gain ongoing support towards their new healthy lifestyle
