At RUCST, our aim is to provide a service to all members of our community and beyond, alongside our many multi-sports sessions running across the community, we deliver a unique activity session known as Ability Counts.
Ability Counts are not one, but two, multi-sports activity sessions that caters for specific individuals
with diverse needs and impairments that take place weekly on Thursdays 4pm – 5pm at Rotherham
Astro, and Saturdays 9:30am until 11:45am at Wicklersley School and Sports College.
The special part of these sessions is our structure, and our structure is solely based on our young
people & parents wishes and feelings, and with these wishes our staff design, plan and deliver an
enjoyable session that supports each young persons individual needs.
Our Ability Counts Thursday session is held at Parkgate Astro, our 4G football facility and this is for
our young people to attend during the week to have fun and engage with friends and also make
new friends outside of an educational setting. This session is a multi sports activity session that
delivers a mixture of sports such as football, tennis, cricket and a mixture of team building activities.
Our Ability Counts Saturday session is held at Wickersley School & Sports College during the hours
of 09:30am to 11:45am. Unlike our Thursday session, this session is split into two categories Adults
and Juniors. The adult session caters for young people ages 16 and over and will take place 09:30am– 10:30am working on specific footballing drills and training to improve the young peoples ability, helping them develop as a footballer. The Junior session caters for young people ages 7 – 15 years and will take place from 10:45am – 11:45am. This session primarily focuses on the enjoyment of the young people as we deliver a mixture of footballing games and activities that are designed to increase mobility, awareness and communication skills enabling them to learn new techniques and make new friends during the process.
