We celebrate NCS Fest this week for all our summer sign ups to get hyped and ready for an exciting and unforgettable summer ahead!
NCS Fest is an afternoon of fun and activities designed for the young people who are either signed up or thinking about signing up to our summer programme on NCS with Rotherham United Community Sports Trust. The pre-programme event is designed to bring together 15-17 year olds from all around Rotherham to get acquainted with the people they will be spending more time with in the summer, as well as meet some of the team leaders who will be alongside them during their NCS journey.
NCS fest is always popular with the young people, with a huge increase from last year a 127 young people attending which meant this year we spared no expense in bringing the entertainment factor to the grounds of Silverwood Miners in Dalton. Amongst the acts was Rotherham’s very own Brad Ryan who is an up and coming singer songwriter and has helped out with our events for many years now and was a big hit on the day! We were lucky the rain stayed away and we brought the holiday vibes as Sam Sax came down fresh from Majorca and accompanied Kurt Greiz on the decks which blew everyone away and created a exciting buzz for summer!
The fun didn’t stop there as we had RUFC’s very own Miller Bear sporting an NCS t-shirt and even getting involved in the inflatable gladiator dual with some of the participants!
NCS isn’t NCS without some team building games, and with some people feeling brave enough to come along on their own, the team leaders were keen to play some games to socialise everyone and create new friendships which is great to see, especially after a tough few years for the young people during the pandemic.
It’s fair to say everybody had a great time and are now very much looking forward to the summer programme!
With out first programme just over a month away, the next steps are the induction evenings where the young people will come together at Rotherham Leisure Centre the Monday prior to their programme to meet their team and their 2 team leaders. They will get involved in some fun team building activities and take on board some last minute information before programme. Following that, on the Thursday prior programme the young people will drop their bags off at Magna where the coach will depart on the following Monday.
We are so excited to be able to take the participants on a residential again this year and have got what’s going to be a memorable jam packed summer planned for them!
NCS Project Manager, Carla Whitehead said:
“The young people are well into their exam period now, and I believe it’s important for them to have a break from revision to enjoy themselves amongst all the pressure and stress. When the young people first arrived at the Fest, they were very cautious of socialising with other people – you can see that Covid really has taken it’s toll on them. It’s our mission to teach the basic skills of socialisation again and get them out of the house to catch up on making memories for a lifetime! It was a huge success and was fantastic to see them smiling and dancing with each other – they are after all big kids at heart, and they love the Macarena just as much as the team leaders clearly did!“
