NEWS | Mature Millers receive extra funding in aim to combat social isolation

The Mature Millers Walking Football Association are delighted to have received £5000 from South
Yorkshire’s Community Foundation to allow them to support current and new older adults in getting
active and reducing social isolation.

The Mature Millers Walking Football Association will use the money to meet twice per week for a
game of walking football followed by the chance for a coffee and a good catch up. The sessions are
open to those aged 50+ and are a great way to continue your love of the beautiful game.

Whilst the game is a little slower than regular football, don’t be fooled by the term ‘walking
football’. The players still get quite a sweat on and it’s certainly a chance for your team spirit and
competitive side to shine through. With separate sessions for males and females the project will give
the opportunity for people to continue playing football, return to the game, or even give it a go for
the first time.

Session details can be seen below:
Male
Mondays
11.45am-12.45pm
Parkgate Astro
Starting Monday 12th April

Female
Thursdays
6.00pm-7.00pm
Parkgate Astro
Starting 15th April

More sessions to be added in May 2021.

Club Secretary Chris Baker said:
“At the Mature Miller’s WFC we are so grateful to the SYCF and the financial contributors for helping
us continue and grow the walking football community. The mental and physical benefits are
immense, so get up from your sofa and join us!”.
