NEWS | RUCST expand their Girls Football provision

Rotherham United Community Sports Trust (RUCST) are expanding their provision of women’s and girls’ football in the local community in the run up to the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022.

At RUCST, we are keen to create a lasting legacy for girls and women within the community. Our UEFA qualified coaches are passionate about introducing young girls into the sport, and developing their skills and understanding of the game.

The UEFA Women’s Euro competition aims to inspire long-term, sustainable and positive changes in women’s and girls’ football within Rotherham.

As part of the tournament’s legacy, RUCST is beginning to deliver a range of different programmes in order to welcome women and girls into football, with a focus on under-represented groups. Football will be used to encourage more women and girls to adopt and maintain a healthier lifestyle, with leadership opportunities developed to help women and girls grow the game.

At RUCST, we run a variety of fun and friendly sessions around Rotherham to introduce girls into the fundamentals of the game.

Here is a list of our current girls and women’s football provision:

Future Stars

The Future Stars girls development programme is for girls of any ability level aged 5-16 and offers progression opportunities into Rotherham United Women’s first team.

Here is a list of our Future Stars Girls ONLY sessions:

  • Mondays at Parkgate Astro from 6pm-7pm for ages 5-11 years.
  • Wednesdays at Wickersley School from 6pm-7pm for ages 12-14 years.
  • Wednesdays at Parkgate Astro from 6pm-7pm for ages 15-16 years.
  • Sundays at Aston Leisure Centre from 11am-12pm for ages 5-11 years.

Head Future Stars coach Adam Pilgim said: “All of the coaching team are keen to get more girls into the game from a young age. We want to get them playing the best game in the world with a smile on their faces. We are all UEFA B licensed coaches and we know how important it is to get the FUNdamentals right.”

Weetabix Wildcats

We also run weekly Weetabix Wildcats sessions at Ruby Cook Recreation Ground. These sessions are all about making new friends and trying something new in a sociable, non-competitive environment. Weetabix Wildcats is designed for girls who want to give football a go for the very first time or want to play with other girls their own age. Most importantly, Weetabix Wildcats is all about having loads of fun and meeting new friends.

Rotherham United Whitehill Girls U18’s

Rotherham United Women, Rotherham United Community Trust and Brinsworth Whitehill JFC formed a partnership in order to offer organised football for Girls teams at Under 12’s, Under 14’s, Under 16’s, and Under 18’s.

The club is affiliated as part of Brinsworth Whitehill JFC but is named Rotherham United Whitehill Girls FC.

Rotherham United Women

Rotherham United Women is the official Women’s team that is affiliated with Rotherham United F.C. for women aged 18 and upwards. They are based at Roundwood Sports Complex in Rawmarsh.

RUWFC play competitive football in the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League. They are looking to recruit players to their first team for the 21/22 season, and are holding recruitment events on Saturday 5th June, Thursday 10th June and Saturday 12th June.
