NEWS | RUCST provide Nutrition Workshops to young people over the summer holidays

Rotherham United Community Sports Trust’s Health and Wellbeing department strive to help the community of Rotherham to lead healthy, happy and long lives.

As part of RUCST’s provision of the Holiday Activity and Food Programme (HAF) camps, we have provided a Nutrition workshop which has been led by our health and wellbeing coach Hollie Webb. Hollie is in the final year of her Nutrition and Wellbeing degree and is passionate about combining food and fitness to help people live healthier, happier lifestyles.

Our multi-sport HAF camps have provided perfect opportunities for our Health and Wellbeing team to attempt to instil healthy habits in local children from a young age.

The HAF Programme is funded by the Department for Education and provides a range of activities and a free, healthy meal for children aged 5-16 who are eligible for benefit-related free school meals over the Summer and Christmas School Holidays.

Hollie has been delivering these healthy eating education sessions at each of the HAF camps at Maltby, Parkgate Astro, Disability, and the Masbrough Arts and Crafts camp.

Throughout the summer, Hollie has covered the basics of nutrition; such as the Eatwell guide, portion sizes, and sugary drinks and snacks. In these sessions, Hollie has explained the importance of these aspects in order to help our young participants to understand the benefits of eating a healthy, balanced diet.

“Teaching children these fundamental aspects is so important to ensure they grow up with the knowledge to live healthier lifestyles. I definitely think the young people on camps will go away feeling more confident and informed about healthy eating.”
