NEWS | RUCST recruit young people through the Kickstart Scheme

Rotherham United Community Sports Trust  (RUCST) take advantage of the governments Kickstart Scheme in partnership with the English Football League Trust and Job Centre Plus.

RUCST first recruit, Laura has started her Kickstart journey this week, joining the team as an Administration Assistant.

Laura Boulding is 22 years old, last year she completed a 3 year degree studying photography and media. Progressing into employment, she began her role as a Care Worker, providing personal and domestic care within her community. Despite extremely enjoying it, she left after 3 months due to instability in the pay. From this role she ended up unemployed for 6 months.  She was referred by her Work Coach to Sandra Greatorex, Employability & Skills Officer at Rotherham United CST to undertake an Information, Advice & Guidance session and produce an action plan. This helped with different resources and made her think of different outlets e.g. volunteering. Creating an action plan also provided a clear focus for the meetings with her Work Coach. Laura was made aware by her Work Coach of the Kickstart vacancy at Rotherham United CST as an Administration Assistant. She had mixed emotions of nervousness and excitement once an interview was offered as she really wanted the job. This would enable Laura to gain the experience she required to progress her career in an office environment. Laura was successful, despite having no previous experience within administration. Two weeks later she started her new employment.

Gary Bricknell, Operations Manager at RUCST said “We are delighted to have appointed Laura through our Kickstart Scheme, She has various transferable skills that will provide the trust with much needed support over the next 6 months. Laura will hopefully be the first of many young people we support through this initiative”.
